High Speed Rail for Alberta...
It's About Time.

Alberta High-Speed Rail Inc. (AHSR) was formed in the late 1990s for the sole purpose of bringing high-speed passenger rail service to the Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary corridor in Alberta, Canada.

While still very much a vision, AHSR will use existing proven technology to operate electric passenger trains at 300 kilometers per hour, reducing the travel time between downtown Calgary and downtown Edmonton, a 300 kilometre trip, to just 84 minutes. Currently this trip takes close to three hours by air, when check -in time and travel to the airports is included, and three hours or more by automobile. There is no existing rail service.

Trains will be equipped with comfortable seats, a sophisticated heating and air-conditioning system, cellular phone and internet connections, washrooms, and the all-important food and beverage services. A manufacturer for the trains is under review.

As a private, for-profit company, AHSR will purchase all rolling stock, maintenance and operating facilities and systems technology. The track will be owned by the Government of Alberta. AHSR proposes to maintain the track, and pay access fees for its use.
